The majority of undergraduate texts in invertebrate zoology fall into one of two categories. They either offer a systematic treatment of groups of animals phylum by phylum, or adopt a functional approach to the various invertebrate anatomical and physiological systems of the better known species. The Invertebrates: a New Synthesis is the first and only textbook to integrate both approaches and thus meet the modern teaching needs of the subject

′The authors have succeeded in providing within a single volume a new, critical look at the essentials of invertebrate biology, in a form meeting the needs of students on modern courses in zoology ... clearly written and excellently illustrated with line drawings and diagrams.′Journal of Biological Education on the first edition

This book was on the reading list for many of my courses whilst doing a Marine Science degree. Like most books on the lists, I thought it would be a one off use book - how wrong I was! This is by far the best invertebrate book around, with clear and concise diagrams and alot of information that is very useful. The chapters are well thought out and easy to pick information from.Essential book for anyone in the Marine Biology field.

I found this very interesting, and a lot more challenging than other books at this level. Some excellent diagrams.
