Hi fellow African wildlife enthusiasts,This 272 page paperback version is packed full of useful information, photos, line drawings, maps and paintings of South African Mammals. Not only does it cover the larger mammals but also the smaller lesser known mammals such as rats, mice, Sengis, mole rats, civets, genets, dormice, weasels, ratels, hares, rabbits and many species of bats and mongooses. There is also a section on marine mammals-very useful if you are lucky enough to live near or visit the coast off South Africa. There is information on biomes and geographical distribution etc which assist in identifying the majority of species to be found in Southern Africa.210mm long and 150mm wide is possibly a little large for your pocket-but then this is not a pocket guide-it is however a really useful guide which I am always dipping into finding out facts and snippets of information which make the animals covered that much more interesting! 112 colour plates and various black and white colour drawings and illustrations make this a great book for Field and Safari guides to add to their collection. The authors Chris and Tilde Stuart are world authorities having written a number of books on South African mammals and they also launched the African Carnivore Survey to promote conservation of African carnivores and their research throughout Southern Africa.Well recommended read and really useful guide-add it to your collection!Enjoy! Bwana FosterKeep the wind in your face and the sun on your back!
